The story of David and Goliath is a familiar one, but if we are not careful, familiarity can cause us to pass over important truths that God wants impart to us. We all have, or will have, giants in our lives that fight against the covenant we have with God through Christ. The life and faith of David are an example for us. If we expect God to slay the giants in our lives, we must respect the leadership that God has placed over us. Submission to authority is inseparable from faith. We must have a shepherd's heart — willing to go out of our way to find the lost and help the hurting. And, like David, we must be willing to fight the bears and lions — the smaller battles — before going after the giants.
