He's the King…
May 27, 2012

Of all the "last words" he could have shared, why does David recount the story of his men retrieving water from Bethlehem? It shows us two things. For one, they weren't commanded to retrieve the water, but because of their relationship with the king, they knew his desire and acted on it. Secondly, the deeper the friendship, the greater the availability. Don't limit your relationship with God to Sunday mornings. At the end of the story David unexpectedly pours the water out on the ground. Why? Because he is a king and can do whatever he wants. Is God the king of your life? Are you willing to let him pour your cup — your plans, dreams, vacation time, 401K, etc. — out on the ground?

How to Never Fall Away From Christ
May 20, 2012

The writer of Hebrews warns us to be careful and make sure we don't fall away from Christ. This doesn't mean we need to strive in our own efforts to make sure we remain close to God. That will produce the opposite result. We strive; we fail; we get tired; and we end up far from God. We actually end up trying to operate under the old covenant law, rather than trusting in the new covenant grace of Jesus. If you want to remain close to Christ, don't depend on yourself, but trust that His grace is sufficient. He is faithful to complete the work He has started in you.

Adjusting to God
May 13, 2012

In 1 Samuel we see David in one of the lowest times in his life. Like David, many of us are facing hard situations. We have two choices. We can try to twist God to our circumstances or we can adjust our hearts to God. Many opt for the former, striving to force the hand of God so that we don't have to be uncomfortable; but David shows us that the latter is the choice that pleases God. Wait on the Lord and believe Him for His promises. He is loving, merciful and mighty and will not leave nor forsake you. He is faithful!

Revelation You Can Walk In (Part 2)
May 09, 2012

God's covenant with Abraham is a type of the New Covenant, which we are partakers of through faith. Just as the bondage and slavery of Abraham's descendants was foretold, as well as their deliverance, so God accomplishes a great deliverance from the bondage of sin in our lives. Because our God is a faithful, covenant-keeping God, we can stand on His word and declare about our bondage and sin, "It is finished"! As the Israelites came away from their slavery with great wealth, so the Holy Spirit in us reveals this great wealth of resources we have been freely given in Christ... but still, our very greatest Reward is Christ Himself!

For the Honor
May 06, 2012

Throughout history man has failed to uphold his end of covenant with God. For that reason Christ had to be made like us, fully human. Jesus completely fulfilled the old covenant and invites us to partake in its benefits. Through him we are fully cleansed, full of God's peace, fully at peace with God and abounding in his grace. We cannot add anything to the finished work of Christ. His grace is fully sufficient. It is our role to receive it as the gift that it is and enjoy it.

Moab is Not Wonderful
May 02, 2012

When God gives a promise, it's because He wants to do something—not ordinary or normal—but wonderful! We need to beware of unbelief, which causes us to survey our own abilities and strengths, seeking out a natural way to accomplish the supernatural. God wants to be proven! Those who simply trust are privileged to see the miraculous, as God proves Himself faithful to keep His promises.

Crazy Generosity
April 29, 2012

God is calling us to a "Crazy Generosity." It isn't one birthed out of the Law, compulsion or guilt, but a generosity driven by the grace of God. We shouldn't have to be commanded to give. When we fully understand Christ's love and generosity toward us, we can't help but pour out all that we can for others.

Protected All Around
April 22, 2012

We're all involved in spiritual warfare—no matter our standing in life—and like a predator, our enemy goes after the weak. We must be strong in the Lord and wield the shield of faith, which extinguishes all the fiery arrows of the enemy. These aren't just arrows that kill, but they hit and set the whole body aflame. That can be lust, resentment, anger, worry, etc. Faith produces an assurance of future things to happen and a certainty that things unseen are just as real, or more real in some cases, than what we can see with our eyes. Faith comes by God's word being revealed to our hearts. Lord, increase our faith!

Expect the Miraculous
April 20, 2012

There are times in our life, and that time could be now, when God will put us in a place where we have nothing but Him — a place where we need a miracle. If you find yourself in that place, you need to invite Jesus into your situation. Tell Him what the problem is and do whatever He tells you, no matter how foolish it may seem. God will come through, and He saves the best for last.
