Outline and Questions for The Springs Church Connect Groups

Week of April 4, 2011

#1 – Encourage your group to read this week's text: I Corinthians 3:16+17

#2 – Encourage each group member to review this past week's sermon. If they did not attend, have them listen/watch online

#3 – This week's title: "Jesus, the Destroyer"

#4 – Outline/Description

Scripture says that we are God's temple and if anyone destroys that temple God will destroy him. First, this is not speaking of God destroying us. He is not out to get us but wants to help us through life.

Both of the words "destroy" in this passage are the same root word. God is essentially saying that he will destroy what is destroying us, his temple. Jesus walked the earth in the example of what this Scripture means overturning the money changers tables in the temple, cursing the fig tree and making the statement that he would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days. These were all acts of love to purge, unburden and destroy things that will harm us. He removes those things because we are his holy temple.

#5 – Questions

  1. From the text and other Scriptures, what does being God's temple mean? What rights does this give and what does it exclude us from?
  2. When circumstances or situations in life are uncomfortable, what is our reaction? Do we thank God for the work of destroying things that bring us harm or do we question what he is doing?
  3. For thought and reflection: Are there burdens in your life that are destroying you?
