Urgent Need - Pregnancy Center
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2009 - News + Updates
Just got this request from Laura Howe at the Pregnancy Center and Life Network here in the Springs. If you are able to donate items, you can drop them off at their office. Their hours of operation are: Mon-Tues 10-7; Wed-Thurs 10-5. Their phone number is: 355-1171. In addition to dropping items off this week, you can also bring them to church this Sunday. Thanks again for digging deep and providing heroic acts of service in the Name of Jesus. See you Sunday.
Hey all!
I wanted to make you aware of an urgent need we have at the office. In the three years I’ve worked here I’ve never seen the need quite this great nor the supplies this low.
Today in the Pregnancy Center we find ourselves completely out of milk-based formula and size 4 + 5 diapers. We are also in desperate need of infant clothing: sizes 12, 18 and 24 months (boys and girls). Due to this tough economy, we are serving more women and babies than ever before and it is currently a challenge to meet many of their needs.
A can of formula, a package of diapers, gently used (or new) infant clothing — it all makes a difference. Please consider helping if you can AND please tell a few of your friends (or a young moms group, small group at your church, etc.) about our need. If you and your friends respond soon, we will be able to meet the current needs of our clients through the end of the year.
Every donation is a blessing. Please let me know if you have any questions. Donations can be dropped off at the Life Network office at 3700 Galley (across from the Citadel Mall) or feel free to e-mail me and I can possibly arrange to pick them up from you.
Thank you!
Laura Howe

Rides Needed
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2009 - News + Updates
Some who attend The Springs Church can only do so because members have volunteered to provide rides on Sundays. We have additional requests for rides but we need more people to provide transportation. All it takes to serve in this ministry is a willingness to let somebody sit in an available seat in your car, and an ability to pick them up before service and then to take them home afterwards, a simple gesture of kindness. Please contact us at outreach@thespringschurch.com if you are able to help with this need.

Three Days of Fasting and Prayer
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2009 - News + Updates
Hello Springs Church. As most of you know, we began our three-day fast for Impossible Never TODAY! Feel free to choose the kind of fast that will be suitable for you. Here are just a few ideas:
- The Complete Fast involves consuming only water. I believe this fast is the most effective.
- The Daniel Fast involves eating fruits and vegetables only.
- You may choose to fast all junk food for the duration.
- A popular fast these days is the Media Fast, which is not watching television, not listening to the radio, no magazines or browsing the Internet and avoiding non-essential texting, Facebook or Twitter.
The point is to sacrifice and die to our flesh as a form of worship, to hear God with greater clarity and consistency and to pray with greater intensity.
Thank you for your sacrifice for the Lord and the lost in Colorado Springs.
God bless you!

Nicky Cruz Report
THURSDAY, JULY 30, 2009 - News + Updates
As we look back at last Sunday, many of us are still trying to grasp the magnitude of the service. God filled the auditorium with more than 1,100 people and not one of us was left unchanged by the powerful testimony of Nicky Cruz. This day was a turning point for numerous individuals and for the church as a whole.
For many people, Sunday was a day of healing from a life of pain and destruction. The altars were filled with people asking God for the same change that Nicky Cruz experienced. Not one who asked walked away without receiving the hope of a new direction in Christ.
As a church body, this service brought an awareness of the hurt and need in our city. It also brought an excitement to see the reality of miraculous change. As we prayed, God transformed lives right before our eyes. Even the casual observer could not help but be affected by the mighty move of God in our church. This service has impacted us deeply as we begin to focus outward to our communities.

Urgent Items Needed for Acacia Park Outreach
FRIDAY, JULY 10, 2009 - News + Updates
Starting this Sunday, we are asking the TSC family to donate items for the Saturday outreach to Acacia Park. The items that Charlie has requested are:
- Baby wipes (great for bathing when showering facilities are not available)
- Hygiene items — combs, brushes, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, etc.
- Underwear and socks (most throw theirs away as there are no laundering facilities)
- Ziplock bags (to keep items dry)
- Backpacks, sleeping bags & blankets
In addition, we are looking for four to five people who can volunteer once a month to help on Saturdays from 3:30PM–5:00PM downtown. You would be able to serve on the food line, pray for people and minister to the needy.
We are also looking for worshipers. If you can sing or play the guitar, your gifts will help to quench the demonic spirits that tend to be present. Let me know if you are able and willing to serve in this area.
We will be providing a receptacle in the foyer at church starting this Sunday. Please bring as many items as possible.
Thank you and see you Sunday!

First Family Fun Night
FRIDAY, JUNE 26, 2009 - News + Updates
Our first Family Fun Night was on Saturday, June 20th at the Air Force Academy Bowling. The turn out was great — we almost took over the entire bowling alley! They played Christian music for us and we all appreciated the family-friendly environment. Everyone seemed to have a great time connecting with each other and competing for the highest score — congratulations to the Gackle family with a family score of 688 (an 137 average per bowler)! Many commented that they hadn't bowled in years and forgot how much fun it was!
We are looking forward to our next Family Fun Day on Saturday, July 18th for archery and a BBQ at the Air Force Academy Archery Center at 10AM. Come join the fun as we build community together!

Queen Palmer Elementary School Outreach
THURSDAY, JUNE 25, 2009 - News + Updates
The week of June 8th several of us went to Queen Palmer Elementary School and led "Adventures in the Bible" for a summer program. The children were reserved the first day, especially during worship, but by the second day they were out of their chairs lifting their arms, clapping and praising the Lord with us!
Joshua Flanery led worship everyday along with Shannon, Amy, and Parker George. Everyday we had a skit pertaining to the Bible story and kids from the youth joined us several of the days. The children loved the games, especially the prizes for the winning teams. We were so blessed to serve these children and to see how hungry they were for the Lord.
The first day, six children came forward to accept Christ and by the end of the week every child acknowledged Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour! On the last day, the children asked what we were going to do with them the following week, it was very sad to tell them "Adventures in the Bible" was over. We look forward to impacting the lives of more children and their families next summer.
Please pray for all the children we ministered to and their families!

The Springs Church's Children's Ministry
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, 2009 - News + Updates
Our Children's Ministry is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where children are trained through active, deliberate, hands-on curriculum and activities that draw them into a closer relationship with the Lord. Classes are provided for nursery (infant to two years old), preschool through kindergarten, and children's church (1st–6th grade).
In our nursery babies and toddlers will experience the love of God through hands-on activities, finger plays, songs and prayer. Topics include: God made everything, I am wonderfully made, and Jesus loves me!
In our preschool through kindergarten, children will engage in hands-on activities pertaining to that day's Bible lesson so they can encounter the love of God at an early age. Topics include: Bible heroes, the life of Jesus, and New Testament living.
In children's church children will encounter God through the Word, prayer, worship, drama, puppets, games and other hands-on activities. Topics include: Hearing the voice of God, The Blood of Jesus, The Names of God, Jesus the Healer, Missions and the 10/40 Window, and many more in-depth studies that will equip children to live a Spirit-filled life in Christ. We believe children should be equipped and trained for the work of the ministry; therefore we provide opportunities for each child to use their gifts to minister through kid's worship, creative ministry, intercession, outreach and serving.
We labor to bring about the vision through prayer, scriptural training, preaching of the word, and yielding our lives to the Holy Spirit.

First Baptism
MONDAY, MAY 18, 2009 - History
On Sunday, May 17, 2009 we had our first baptism and it was a wonderful celebration! Those who were baptized were Katie Clark, Joshua Flanery, Emily Johannes, Caleb Joyner, Megan Joyner, Garth Kennedy, Josiah Roberts, Noah Roberts, Felicia Skrzypek, Gabrielle Skrzypek and Tracey Skrzypek.
Some of the statements we heard from those baptized were:
"I finally felt like I was part of the family of God"
"It was a day that demonstrated to God and to the congregation the changes in my heart and in my life"
"It was so amazing to be baptized with my daughters, what an amazing experience to come to Jesus as one family"
"Baptism meant giving my life to the Lord"
"It was an amazing day I will never forget"
"Getting baptized for me was a way to wash away all the residue from my past, and the most pure way I could show my commitment to God. It was also a way to show the enemy that he lost!"

Two Services and the Charismatic Reformation
FRIDAY, MAY 1, 2009 - News + Updates
Two quick and vital announcements. First, remember we begin two services this Sunday: 9 am (nursery only) and 11 am (full children’s church).
We also start a new series titled The Charismatic Reformation. God throughout the ages has poured out His Spirit in ways of truth, power and restoration. Sometimes we’ve moved without wisdom and missed or twisted what the Spirit was doing. Only the Word of God and the breath of the Spirit of God can lead us into the way, the truth and abundant life. We look forward to seeing you Sunday. You're in our prayers. Blessings.

Starting Sunday May 3rd - Two Sunday Services - 9am + 11am
TUESDAY, APRIL 21, 2009 - News + Updates
God is on the move in the city we love. Our growth has expanded at a rate far beyond our expectations. We are thrilled to be in the new auditorium but we’ve already surpassed the room occupancy. We so appreciate you being involved through your prayers, your excitement and your amazing volunteer spirit. So, this week will be our last one-service Sunday. The following week, May 3rd we launch our new early morning service at 9am followed by a second service at 11am. Children’s Ministry will occur during the 11am service only.
Having to make this move so quickly is a surprise and we’re going to need a large number of new volunteers. The areas we are in most need are parking, set up, tear down, ushers, greeters and hosts. Please let us know if you can pitch in. Now is the time to step up and get involved. Even if you can only commit to the next six weeks, we would appreciate your help. Who knows, it may be the prefect fit for you.
If you are able to help, please contact Bob Wise via e-mail at bob@thespringschurch.com or by phone at (719) 785-8470

Official Launch
SUNDAY, APRIL 12, 2009 - History
After over three months of holding Sunday meetings in a temporary room at the Jericho Center, we officially launched The Springs Church on April 12th – Easter Sunday. This day had been greatly anticipated since the first Sunday meeting in January. Not only were we able to celebrate Christ’s resurrection and new life in him but we were also able to celebrate the new beginning of The Springs Church! We were excited to move to the newly finished Watchman Training Center auditorium. This space provides seating for 300 and a more permanent set-up for the worship team. Once again to our surprise, we ran out of seats as more than 450 people attended this first service! We watched in amazement as God gave his confirmation on this new church.

Dear Friends, Volunteers Needed
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18, 2009 - News + Updates
We are looking for volunteers in the following areas:
Children's Ministry
Thank you for your patience during this beginning stage of the church. We believe that it will be well worth the wait once we move in to the new auditorium for the official launch. We understand that it may be difficult for parents not to have ministry for their children during the service. Once we move to the new auditorium, we will have exciting, creative and Jesus-glorifying children’s services for all ages. The Children’s Ministry will expand to include the entire Shout to the Lord Court upstairs. Please help us with this transition, as it will require many volunteers to make this a reality. If you have a child in children’s ministry, please strongly consider giving your time at least once a month to minister to these precious children. For any interest in this ministry, please pick up an application at church or contact Pam Flanery at (719) 641-9934
Audio/Visual
Soundboard Technicians - Must have previous experience or knowledge of signal flow and mixing boards. We will provide any additional training.
Media Technicians - Must have experience or be willing to learn SongScreen, PowerPoint and other presentation software.

A Pastor's Look at Prophetic Warning
TUESDAY, MARCH 10, 2009 - News + Updates
This past week my father, David Wilkerson published an online message with a prophetic warning of severe and difficult days to come . Word spread quickly after being picked up by large media agencies. Within days it was reported that 25 million people had already received the message. This brought many questions into our ministry. My oldest son was in New York this weekend and even his unsaved friends were asking what they should do in response to the word about fires in the streets, riots and looting.
This Sunday I will be bringing a very important message to our Church: A Pastor’s Look at Prophetic Warning. I believe you need to hear this message. As your Pastor I want to address what God is saying and what we are to do in relationship to this warning. I believe that you will be both challenged and encouraged to stand firm in any situation.

First Meeting at Jericho Center
SUNDAY, JANUARY 11, 2009 - History
After four weeks of meeting in the homes of Pastors’ Gary Wilkerson and Adam Taylor for prayer and vision casting, we had a healthy core group of people who were highly committed. It was time for our first Sunday meeting to welcome others who might be interested in helping a serve in the new home.
On January 11th we met at the Jericho Center for the first time. We hoped that through the forty in our core group we might invite another 10–20 people. To our amazement 150 people showed up. We even ran out of seating. There was such a sense of excitement. It was another hint to us that God was doing something beyond our expectation.

Vision-Casting and Prayer at the Taylor's House
NOVEMBER 2009 - History
As I reflect about how The Springs Church was started, I am amazed at how powerful the hand of God has been through the whole process. After Gary and Kelly Wilkerson, Patrick and Alicia Dow, and Julie and I met over several meals and much prayer, it was decided that we would hold a vision-casting meeting at our home. We called several couples that were in transition and who had been enthusiastic about the idea of a church plant.
As Pastor Gary is fond of pointing out most churches are started by young couples fresh out of seminary — not so with The Springs Church. God took three families with the adults all being in their late 40’s, all with a wealth of ministry experience, and put us on a brand new course.
We met in late November, Kelly brought her keyboard and Paul his guitar. We had a wonderful time of worship and Gary and I cast the vision. We were about 30 in number and the response was very positive. We are amazed at what the Lord has done.
